One thing that I didn't count when I first decided to be a photographer full time was how invested I would get in our clients. I knew from the very beginning that I wanted to hold myself to certain standards and that it was super important to me for our clients to not just love their photos but to have an amazing experience working with me (now us) too. It hadn't occurred to me though that I would get invested in our clients and their big day beyond just the small part we play. I learned that pretty quickly though. Almost from the very beginning I found myself really getting into conversations about wedding details that honestly I don't even remember from my own wedding. It's not that I just really love talking about wedding invitations or the different flower options available for a November wedding. It's that I love how excited our brides are about those details and I love sharing their excitement.
Most of the time that excitement for and investment in our brides is an easy decision. Our couples bring so much joy to our lives that we just can't help it. Occasionally though it means we have to make a tough decision. Sometimes it means saying no because we don't feel like we're the right decision for a couple. We want every couple to have the best experience possible so if we feel like another photographer would be a better fit we have to say no. It just wouldn't be fair to us or to them. Other times though the tough decision is to say yes to a couple that we really click with even when our life outside of 3eight is a little crazy. That was the case with Leslie and Jesse. When I first read Leslie's email I was super bummed because they're getting married in mid-January. Normally that wouldn't be a problem except that baby Looney #2 is due on Christmas Eve. There is no way Aleah is shooting a wedding in January. After reading Leslie's email though again I was having a hard time sending that "No" email. Instead I sent an email to Aleah. After talking it over we decided to do something that we never do. I'm going to shoot the wedding without her (that was actually a little bit painful to type). This was a couple I just couldn't say no to. No matter how sleep deprived I think I'm going to be I had to be there.
I'm super pumped for Leslie and Jesse's big day and after shooting their engagement photos at their wedding venue I'm even more pumped. They're so awesome I know it's going to be a great day! I hope you guys enjoy looking at their engagement session as much as I enjoyed shooting it.
