A photographer doesn't have to be very many weddings into their career before it becomes apparent just how different every couple and every wedding day is. Some couples are traditionalists who build their entire wedding day timeline around the groom seeing his bride for the first time as she walks down the aisle. For others it's all about that private moment that comes with a first look, and still others take an even more relaxed approach. That was David and Kyla. You may remember me mentioning how laid back David and Kyla were in their engagement blog post. What I didn't tell you about though was the last conversation we had before saying good bye that morning. As we were walking back toward our cars we started talking about timeline and how long things typically take on wedding day. One thing I almost always ask brides in those conversations is about their dress and bridesmaids dresses. If she's wearing a ball gown with a 6ft train and a cathedral length lace veil we need to take that into account when planning portrait time because it's going to take an extra minute or two to get set. Anyway, I asked Kyla about her dress but threw in the disclaimer that she didn't have to tell me anything she didn't want David to hear. She said it's fine and offered to show me a photo on her phone (I always get really excited when I get to see the dress before the big day). As she held out the phone I put my hand up to the side of it to block David's view (habit). That's when I realized just how chill these guys really are. The next thing Kyla said was "Oh it's okay, David actually put me into the dress". Fast forward a few days and we're actually shooting some "wedding day" portraits before the big day! Not all of them, but some, so that on wedding day we have loads of time. This was definitely a situation of having your cake and eating it too! They got LOADS!!! of portraits and still had time for pre-ceremony cocktails.
Their laid back attitudes on wedding day were infectious and I carried that vibe all the way though the weekend. It really is a testament to how awesome these guys are that their guests flew from all over the world to be there for David and Kyla's big day! We had so much fun with David, Kyla, and their families and we hope you enjoy getting a little glimpse.
